Quick Mixing Tip: Guitars and Vocals

Edge World

When EQ’ing a guitar, try focusing on the vocal instead of listening to the guitar. This can be hard to wrap your brain around sometimes so think of it as EQ’ing the vocal while you adjust the guitar’s EQ if that’s easier. This can help cleanup the interaction between the guitar and vocals so you can push the guitar more without wiping out the vocal or making it sound weird.

  • Great tip. I was doing something similar this past weekend.

  • Ive been doing this with the snare and guitar guess I’ll have to try them with the vocal as well. Ive also been eqing my kick with my bass guitar up and vice versa. Great tip. Thanks
