If the drums don’t hit, the whole mix feels flat. No matter what genre I’m working in—alternative, Americana, CCM, or pop—the drums are what move the song. They don’t just sit there in the mix; they shape the energy, the urgency, and the emotion.
When the groove is right, everything else falls into place. When it’s wrong, nothing quite connects. And I’m not just talking about flashy parts. Sometimes it’s the most understated rhythm that gives a song its pulse.
🎧 This is why I obsess over the feel, the tone, and how it all locks together. 🎯 Weak drums = a weak foundation for emotion. 🔥 Great drums make every other element better.
