Thirsty 2007: Day 4

Off

Today was another great day.  My pastor, Andy, spoke this morning about leadership and vision.  I’ve heard him do a version of this talk before, and it rocked again.  I don’t like to beat this drum because maybe I’m a little biased, but if you haven’t read any of his books you should go pick up the Next Generation Leader along with 7 Practices of Effective Ministry.  There is just a ton of great stuff in these books that you can apply both to ministry and the secular realm.  Matt Redman led worship this morning, and he was great.  This evening Chris Tomlin came.  I saw Redman and Tomlin at Willow Creek maybe a year or two ago, and it was good, but today was something else.  I very rarely say this, but it was great not having to mix and just being able to be in the room and be a part of it.  I hope everyone gets to experience worship music like this with the kind of energy and passion it had.

And while I’m talking about energy, I was reading a new Church Sound blog I found(I don’t have the address handy right now, but I’ll link it soon) authored by a brother from another mother where he was talking about a post I did a while back on the mixing seminar I attended with Buford Jones.  There was a thing in there Buford said about volume engulfing, but not overwhelming or wearing the audience out.  Tonight exemplified this.  Jeff had it at a really nice level that some might consider loud, and these church leaders were totally getting into it.  In fact as the night went on the energy just kept ramping up and up and up.  I think he did a twenty minute version of Mighty to Save twice–seriously, TWICE.  Something was just happening in the room.  If the volume hadn’t been where it was, it wouldn’t have been the same.  When you can get the volume and the energy in sync, it’s a very cool thing.
