Off-Topic: What’s Up? We’re Three

I have been meaning to do a sort of “What’s Up” post, and then I noticed that July marks the three year anniversary since I started this blog. So I guess now is as good a time as any to do this sort of thing.

First, I just want to thank all of you guys for taking time out of your lives to read this thing. When I started this thing it was really just me talking to myself keeping a journal of a big system upgrade I was doing at the time. Gradually it started to evolve into just talking about things I was doing at any point in time and new things I have been picking up on over the years and feeling brave enough to publicly throw my opinion out on. I never started this thing to reach any sort of stats so when I checked the other night at how many RSS subscribers there are I was pretty humbled that anybody would take time to listen to what I might have to say about this audio thing especially when I know how out there and off-the-deep-end I can get. So thank you for taking time to read this.

I also want to thank everyone who has been commenting on the posts and adding opinions over the last year or so because the fact is I don’t have all the answers, and I never will. While there might be technical sounding formula’s and stuff I yank out of a text book smattered here and there, at the end of the day this is really all just my own opinions so your comments are very appreciated.

Just as an FYI, the comments here are moderated. This is primarily to keep spam from showing up, but I also do it to keep out any blatant marketing or sales related comments out. I also get real borderline sometimes with manufacturers when pure information can start to sound like marketing speak; it’s happened a couple times. On the spam side, just to give you an idea, I get approximately 25-50 spam comments a day and my spam filters don’t always get all of them, but moderating comments seems to stop those. Unfortunately sometimes the spam filter catches stuff that isn’t spam, and I don’t have time to sift through the spam to find these. So if you’re ever trying to add comments that never seem to post, please IM me over at the Digidesign User Conference and I’ll look at what’s going on; I’ve probably still got a post I started stickied in the Venue forum so you should be able to find me.

Now I want to apologize to a lot of you guys who were following me on Twitter. When I took my account private, I didn’t realize it would bump everybody I wasn’t following. I’m actually a little frustrated with Twitter because I liked the ability to “converse” without following as folks would respond to my tweets. However, the reality is I was starting to get a lot of spammers following me who were jumping over to my own friends and family, and I had to stop that. If there is a way to open things up so folks I’m not following can follow me, somebody please let me know. Until I can figure out a way to make that work, the reality is I can barely handle the load of folks I follow right now so it’s very hard for me to add someone at this point. I’m re-thinking the whole private thing due to so many folks being bumped, and if something changes I’ll throw something up on the blog to let you fellow Twitterers know.

So I’m not sure where this thing is going for the next year. I plan to keep throwing my thoughts up here as long as I continue to have some that might be somewhat coherent. I’m also going to try and get back into taking more pictures and videos. And then I have some bigger ideas that might start taking shape in the next 12 months–I throw this out not to tease but more as motivation for myself to actually follow through. Sorry, but it’s the only way I’ll ever be accountable.

Thanks again for reading. I’ll hopefully be back in the next few days with actual content. In the meantime, the comments section on this post would be a nice place to give me some ideas of stuff you might want my opinion on and to remind me of all the stuff I said I was going to talk about but never did.
